What to Wear for Christmas Photos
One of the most common questions I get before Christmas sessions is, "What should we wear?" The good news is that you don't need matching outfits or fancy clothes to create beautiful holiday photos. The key is choosing outfits that coordinate, feel comfortable, and let your family's personalities shine.
Choose a Color Palette
Pick 3–4 colors that work well together instead of having everyone wear the exact same thing.
Some of my favorite combinations include:
Cream, forest green, and brown
Burgundy, ivory, and tan
Olive, camel, and white
Navy, cream, and gray
These colors work beautifully for both outdoor and in-home Christmas sessions.
Keep It Cozy
Winter is the perfect time for texture. Sweaters, knit dresses, flannel, corduroy, and wool coats all photograph beautifully and add warmth to your images.
For in-home sessions, cozy pajamas, socks, or simple lounge sets are also great options.
Skip the Busy Patterns
Large logos, bright graphics, and overly busy patterns can be distracting. Solid colors and subtle textures keep the focus on your family instead of your clothing.
Dress for Your Location
For outdoor sessions: Layer with jackets, scarves, boots, or a cozy blanket to stay warm while still looking polished.
For in-home sessions: Keep things comfortable with sweaters, jeans, coordinating pajamas, or casual outfits that fit your family's style.
Don't Stress About Being Perfect
The best Christmas photos come from genuine moments…not perfectly matching outfits. Choose clothes you feel good in, coordinate your colors, and focus on making memories together.
